It may have been a chilly and rainy day on October 11, 2018 but nothing dampened the spirits and festivities that occurred in Jersey Township that evening. The long awaited Fire Station 405 officially opened.
Festivities began with a welcome from Fire Board President, Mark Van Buren followed by the West Licking Fire Honor Guard presenting the colors while the Licking Heights High School Band played the Star Spangled Banner. Former Fire Board member, Dan Skinner gave the station blessing with guest speaker James Weber former Fire Chief, dedicated the Station to former Fire Board member, Derek Myers. Mr. Myers served the community as a Jersey Township Trustee for more than 20 years. He also spent those years serving as a West Licking Fire Board member. The festivities continued with the unveiling of the bronze Fire Station plaque as well as the Derek Myers Station 405 sign. The celebration continued with a Promotion and Pinning ceremony recognizing three newly promoted Captains, three new Lieutenants and seven new full time Firefighter/Paramedics.
The evening concluded with an Uncoupling ceremony. This is the Fire Service version of Ribbon Cutting. It is done when two sections of fire hose are unhooked or “uncoupled” from one another. Fire Chief Todd Magers announced “We are officially open and ready to respond!”
